Love Me Not

Role: Technical Designer
Date: 2016
Duration: 12 months
Company: Juniper

The Love Me Not pendant is the result of a collaboration with Canadian artist Pascale Girardin, developing her form design into a beautiful, organic lighting fixture.

Bringing the Love Me Not to life was an exciting challenge that required the development of a combined lighting and suspension core as well as stretching Juniper's manufacturing capabilities as I helped them expand into thermoforming for the production of the Love Me Not's sculptural acrylic petals. The petals are pressed to create their initial shape, followed by a small amount of hand forming to ensure every lamp is unique. The heatsink was another challenge requiring a unique solution, with the goal of creating a functional component that accented Pascale's original floral intent of the piece.

Artist Pascale Girardin has used the Love Me Not's form in a variety of scales, materials, and installations.

Design began by focusing on the heatsink and lighting core, critical components that needed to be determined before proceeding with the rest of the lamp.

After exploring concepts and conferring with Pascale on her preferred direction, thermal modelling helped determine the specific requirements necessary for our lighting engine.
