THIN Extension
Role: Technical Designer
Date: 2016
Duration: 8 months
Company: Juniper
Peter Bristol's THIN lamp is an elegant combination of LED technology and traditional lighting materials. Expanding on that foundation is the THIN Extension, an architectural lighting system built around magnetically connected modular light rods. THIN Extension can be installed as both a suspension fixture and as a wall mounted sconce.
My role covered everything from developing how the system actually functions, to working with vendors on material selection, sample assesment, quality control, and creating production ready CAD data. Working together with teammates Hayk (electrical engineering) and Ibrahim (mechanical engineering) we developed Peter Bristol's form concepts into Juniper's newest product line.
An early prototype that helped us gauge material fits, assembly methods, and installation.
Custom magnetic electrical connectors create an easy to install, modular lighting system.
Different standoff lengths allow the fixture to function as lighting for art, displays, and undercabinet applications.
The THIN Extension fixtures debuted at ICFF 2016.
